Who We Are- Keltic Lodge Resort and Spa is a historic Cape Breton Resort and is located in the heart of Cape Breton Highlands National Park overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Just 2 hours from Sydney, NS and a 5 hour drive from Halifax, the resort has been welcoming guests to Cape Breton, Nova Scotia since July 1940.
Number of Vacancies- 1
Job Type- This a full-time seasonal position, from May to October 2023 and May to October 2024. We will consider candidates available for one season or both. Those who work both seasons will be eligible for a monetary bonus (see details below).
Hours of work- 30 to 40 hours per week. Shifts include: weekends, holidays, morning, afternoon and evenings. Overtime may be required.
Essential Functions-
- Bake breads, pies, cakes, cookies and other pastries as necessary per the provided production and catering sheets and assist in production planning to meet daily requirements.
- Ensure proper food preparation by utilizing approved recipes, following prescribed production standards and use of proper equipment.
- Assist with the completion of production records to include waste tracking, used/unused portions and product shortages and inform supervisor when supplies are low.
- Ensure proper presentation, food quality, portion control and maintenance of proper serving temperatures.
- Maintain sanitation and orderliness of all equipment, supplies and utensils within work area.
- Handle food items appropriately and with all safety regulations in mind during preparation and service.
- Clean equipment and workstation thoroughly before leaving the area for other assignments and keep display equipment clean and free of debris.
- Consistently exhibit the ability to keep up with peak production and service calmly, accurately and efficiently.
- Check to ensure that all food is presented, served and displayed per standards.
- Follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers and customers in an English work environment.
Wage- $16-$20 per hour, based on experience + tips
Bonus - An additional bonus of $2 per hour for each hour worked will be provided to all employees after October 31st, 2023 who a) work a minimum of 500 hours for the season between May and October and b) work until at least the first Saturday of September 2023. Returning employees for the 2024 season will be eligible for the same $2 per hour bonus structure for the 2024 season, plus an additional $500 as a returning employee bonus.

Required Qualifications-
· Completion of an apprenticeship, college or other program for bakers or at least 2 years of proven baking experience in a commercial kitchen
· Excellent understanding of various baking methods
· Intermediate English proficiency to communication in English work environment
· Accuracy and speed in executing assigned tasks
· Ability to stand for a long period of time and lift supply items
